Byrne Canaan Law was founded in 2019 with a clear purpose: to build a law firm dedicated exclusively to defending health care professionals. Sean Byrne and Jerry Canaan spent years representing physicians, hospitals, and other providers at a well-established firm with a broad corporate and litigation practice. They saw growing demand from insurance carriers and health care organizations for a team with deep, specialized expertise in medical malpractice defense and health regulatory board matters. They also wanted to design a firm culture built to attract and retain top litigation and regulatory board attorneys and paralegals. So they built one.
Starting with a small team of attorneys and staff, they set out to build one of Virginia's leading health care defense practices from their offices in Richmond's Scott's Addition neighborhood.
