Attorneys

We are looking for licensed Virginia attorneys with 0-4 years of experience in complex litigation to join our team.  Excellent writing, analytical, and advocacy skills are essential.  A successful candidate will have demonstrated top academic and professional accomplishments, high energy, and community engagement. Health care background and trial experience are a plus. Additionally, we are also looking for more experienced lateral candidates for the following positions:

Virginia Medical Malpractice Defense Attorney 

      Byrne Canaan Law is a growing health care litigation defense firm dedicated to providing the highest quality representation to health care professionals and facilities across the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

      We focus on defending health care providers in medical malpractice litigation, appeals, government investigations, criminal matters, licensing disputes, audits, regulatory investigations, and administrative hearings. 

      We have a talented team of trial attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants with a proven track record of courtroom success. We have the fortitude to defend tough cases through trial, as well as the experience to guide our clients through the litigation process with insight and compassion. We also have a proven track record of success in matters before the regulatory boards of the Virginia Department of Health Professions. 

      At Byrne Canaan Law, we partner with our clients to proactively solve legal problems, promote patient safety, reduce liability exposure, and fight zealously to defend their interests. 

      Our team currently has ten (10) attorneys and a state-wide practice focused on med maldefense, health care regulatory board defense, white-collar criminal, and other health care operations/government investigation, and civil litigation. We are looking for lateral attorneys with relevant civil litigation experience to join our team. Health care interest and experience are a plus. Excellent writing, research, and advocacy skills are essential. 

      Our firm headquarters is located in the historic Scotts Addition area of Richmond, Virginia. We have flexible remote work options available, dedicated mentorship, and a commitment to career advancement opportunities for all of our attorneys. 

      We have a minimum billable hour requirement of 1800, with a goal of 1900 for full-time litigators. Salary is competitive and negotiable commensurate with experience. Bonus opportunities are available based on productivity, business origination, and work quality. Desired Skills & Experience: JD from accredited law school, licensed to practice in Virginia, proven track record of academic success, and has a commitment to a career in civil litigation as a courtroom advocate.       Regulatory / Health Care Attorney 

          Byrne Canaan Law is a growing health care litigation defense firm dedicated to providing the highest quality representation to health care professionals and facilities across the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

          We focus on defending health care providers in medical malpractice litigation, appeals, government investigations, criminal matters, licensing disputes, audits, regulatory investigations, and administrative hearings. 

          We are seeking a Virginia licensed attorney with 5-10 years’ experience in regulatory/administrative law to join our health care administrative practice. The ideal candidate will have some portable work in the health care regulatory or compliance fields, such as reimbursement, licensure, CMS appeals, and fraud and abuse matters. We are also open to exceptional candidates with existing books of business in related administrative practice areas such as ABC law or government contracting. 

          Some reasons a lateral candidate would be tempted by our firm include our reputation as a state-wide leader in health care litigation and significant exposure to a large pool of potential health care clients including hospital systems, physicians’ groups, pharmacies, behavioral health providers, and other health care institutions.           Government Investigations / White Collar Defense Attorney 

              Byrne Canaan Law is a growing health care litigation defense firm dedicated to providing the highest quality representation to health care professionals and facilities across the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

              We focus on defending health care providers in medical malpractice litigation, appeals, government investigations, criminal matters, licensing disputes, audits, regulatory investigations, and administrative hearings. 

              We are seeking a Virginia licensed attorney with 7-15 years’ experience in government investigations and white collar defense work. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in defending complex criminal or civil cases in federal court and will have some portable work. The candidate will also have experience in False Claims Act/Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act/anti-kickback statutes investigations and litigation. Prior health care law or federal prosecutor experience would be a big plus.

              Paralegal

              We are seeking qualified applicants for an entry level case management paralegal position.  A college degree, paralegal certificate, and personal injury legal assistant or paralegal experience in civil litigation are preferred. A successful candidate will have excellent communication, prioritization, research, and organizational skills.

              Nurse Paralegal

              We are seeking qualified applicants for a medical malpractice defense nurse paralegal.  Nursing licensure and experience required.  Law firm or legal nurse consultant experience along with a certificate, degree or experience in paralegal studies a plus.  A successful candidate will have excellent research skills, thorough understanding of electronic medical records, comfort with medical literature research, and strong writing with outstanding attention to detail.
